Beth’s Pooches and Paws provides dog walking and pet sitting in Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding areas.
Beth always knew even from an early age that she always either wanted to work with animals or children when she was grown up. If you met Beth as a child or adolescent you would have seen instantly what a caring person she was, always wanting to be looking after the cats she grew up with or her younger cousins in her family.
After lots of thought and consideration it was decided when she left secondary school that she was going to go to college to work with children, to train to be a nursery nurse.
Beth absolutely loved working in childcare and gained so many skills from doing this rewarding job. She worked in various childcare settings for over 6 years.
However, she always knew that one day she wanted to experience working with and caring for animals, this was a thought that never left her mind. Beth also brought a dog of her own with her partner, bringing him up from a puppy was the most rewarding thing and made her so happy. At the age of 23 Beth therefore finally decided to take this new path.
She did a couple of online courses to gain the knowledge she needed to stand out, and secured herself her first veterinary job at a veterinary practice in Sevenoaks. Beth was so grateful for this opportunity and felt ready to start her new journey. She started up as a veterinary care assistant and spent some time working in the cattery at the practice also. This is a workplace Beth will always remember, as they were the first place that ever gave her a chance to join the animal care industry, confirming for her that this was what she was meant to be doing.
Unfortunately, she ended up having to take a break from work when the pandemic sadly hit in March 2020. Along with many of her other colleagues, she was placed on furlough and was spending time at home for the first time in what felt like a long time. Beth didn’t let this stop her though and used this time as a chance to explore other areas of animal care and where she may like to go. It was in the midst of her time at home that she realised she wanted to make her dream of running her own pet care business a reality.
So, this was when Beth’s Pooches and Paws officially began! She returned to work part time in the early summer at the vets, so got herself onto social media with Beth’s Pooches and Paws business pages, and put herself out there as the newest dog walker and pet sitter in Tonbridge Wells. She had the business insured, took an animal first aid course and got herself DBS checked and insured.
She juggled working in the vets with building her business and gaining new clients, all whilst the pandemic was still very much going on. As the business started to take off Beth decided to get a veterinary job much closer to home, starting as a veterinary assistant at a vets in high brooms. This was great for her as it allowed her to experience how another place operated whilst working with animals, but also work on the business and watching it continue to grow. In the end Beth was working full time at this veterinary practice, whilst working on her own project in her spare time and at the weekends.
It was in November 2020 when Beth finally took that big leap of faith and decided to go full time with Beth’s Pooches and Paws! This was the most amazing thing to happen so quickly and she could not have been more thankful to all the regular and one off clients she had gained to help her get to where she was. Ever since then she has been continuing to gain many new clients and has learnt so much about how to look after the animals in her care.
Beth has built the most special relationships with all the dogs, cats and small furry animals over this time, and their owners too. Understanding that each animal is an individual and has their own needs to be met. Beth’s Pooches and Paws is still going very strong to this day, offering a fun and reliable tailored dog walking and pet sitting service to Tonbridge Wells and the surrounding areas.
